After selling over ONE HUNDRED of these great Tascam decks, we have learned that they all have similar issues. After 30 years,
the belts go bad, rubber parts deteriorate, lube turns to glue, and solder joints weaken.
So it is inevitable
, sooner or later they will all need service,no matter how little use they have had
.
In fact, this deck uses the same Tascam transport as several other decks, which has an issue with the "C Gear" aging badly and eventually cracking. So, we always replace this gear in any deck using this transport, whether
or not
it has cracked yet.

is a classic production workhorse for musicians and production studios
!
This two-head, front- loading, rackmount cassette deck is ideal for mastering and mixdown and Dolby B & C with HX Pro Headroom Extension! It has high-end features such as automatic tape type selection capable of sensing Normal (Type I), Chrome (Type III), Metal (Type IV) tapes!
The 112mkII also features a parallel port for external control and an optional balanced connector kit, making it flexible enough to integrate into any production studio.
The front panel
has dual 1/4" Mic inputs and a
headphone jack with volume control.

he rear panel has standard RCA input/output jacks plus the "Remote control" serial port

It uses three spaces in your rack, measuring only 14" deep and weighs just over 19 lbs.
This rackmount deck came to us without feet so we have installed low-profile pads to protect your counters. They are easily removed for rack-mounting.
It is The Best, Ltd. policy to double-box all items over 25lbs. C
onsidering the value and vintage nature of these decks, we will give it the high-end treatment as well.

Aside from some scuffing to the lid and a few small dings along the edges, there are a just few light scratches to the front panel that are too faint to make out in the pics.

Service:
On inspection,
the capstan belt needed replacement,
and
the "C Gear" was yellowed and brittle, s
o it was replaced with one of the new, improved gears we sourced, with the brass insert for longevity & reliability. They aren't Chinese knock-offs or made on a 3-D printer in someone's basement, so they are more expensive, but well worth it to ensure years of reliable service.
All decks receive a full restoration which includes the following services and much more,

The exterior, all knobs & plexis are cleaned & detailed
All switches & pots are cleaned internally with Specialist Contact Cleaner (proven superior to DeoxIT by our customers)
Any faulty components, such as jacks, lamps, feet, etc., are replaced
Cassette transport mechanism is cleaned & lubed with non-petroleum based lube to assure long life

Capstan belt replaced w/ high-quality neoprene belt
Pinch roller & idler tire are inspected and treated with Rubber Renue or replaced if questionable
All electrolytic caps are inspected for bulging or leakage

Tape path is cleaned and heads demagnetized.
Testing:
Once serviced, w
e set this up on our test bench and it powered right up with no issues whatsoever. All features and displays  work as expected with the deck running smoothly, producing clear, steady audio with no distortion. A short test track was recorded and played back with no issues. No further testing was done, if there is a particular function you would like tested just let us know before buying. The manual has gone missing but no worries, it can be found online (unfortunately eBay no longer allows us to put the link in the listing for you).
